Book excerpt: Here, Frederick Luis Aldama and Christopher González offer a thought-provoking conversation on the history of Latinos in the pro football leagues. As they weave their way through significant points where culture, politics, and history congeal (an early twentieth century era of Brown Color Lines, the Great Depression, WWII, birth of television, Civil Rights struggles, the twenty-first century Latino demographic explosion, among others), Aldama and González thread together an alpha-to-omega, all-encompassing story of Latinos in the NFL. They push hard at issues such as racial prejudice, including why Latinos have historically had to cross into the Canadian Leagues to prove themselves to white American officiators and the glaring omission of prominent Latino names honored within the hallowed interiors of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Encyclopedic in scope and powerfully pointed in its analysis, they put the spotlight on the significant contribution made by Latinos in the history of pro football.

Book excerpt: The second novel by Don DeLillo, author of White Noise (winner of the National Book Award) and The Silence At Logos College in West Texas, huge young men, vacuum-packed into shoulder pads and shiny helmets, play football with intense passion. During an uncharacteristic winning season, the perplexed and distracted running back Gary Harkness has periodic fits of nuclear glee; he is fueled and shielded by his fear of and fascination with nuclear conflict. Among oddly afflicted and recognizable players, the terminologies of football and nuclear war--the language of end zones--become interchangeable, and their meaning deteriorates as the collegiate year runs its course. In this triumphantly funny, deeply searching novel, Don DeLillo explores the metaphor of football as war with rich, original zeal.

Book excerpt: The New York Times Bestseller Endzone tells the story of how college football's most successful, richest and respected program almost lost all three in less than a decade - and entirely of its own doing. It is a story of hubris, greed, and betrayal - a tale more suited to Wall Street than the world's top public university. Author John U. Bacon takes you inside the offices, the board rooms and the locker rooms of the University of Michigan to see what happened, and why - with countless eye-opening, head-shaking scenes of conflict and conquest. But Endzone is also an inspiring story of redemption and revival. When those who loved Michigan football the most recognized it was being attacked from within, they rallied to reclaim the values that made it great for over a century -- values that went deeper than dollars. The list of heroes includes players, students, lettermen, fans and faculty - and the leaders who had the courage to listen to them. Their unprecedented uprising produced a new athletic director, and a new coach - the hottest in the land - who vindicated the fans' faith when he turned down more money and fame to return to the place he loved most: Michigan. If you love a good story, you'll want to dive into Endzone: The Rise, Fall and Return of Michigan Football.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When directed toward you, two of the more humbling words that can ever be uttered are: "You're fired!" For Red Cashion, however, being fired by both the Southwest and Southland Conferences forced him to make significant attitude changes that took him all the way to the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. Red's rise to prominence in the NFL—many sportswriters described him as the most well-known official NFL history—was primarily the result of Cashion adopting a much more enthusiastic approach. He only achieved his dreams when he stopped blending into the background and began passionately asserting his personality with a trademark call that became recognized across the country. First dooowwwnnn...and life to go! is an inspiring, captivating story that accentuates the power of a positive attitude. Cashion also recounts fascinating stories about some of the NFL's biggest personalities during his 25-year tenure in the league, and he provides strong opinions about the game's current direction. Cashion's advice for protecting current players from concussions, for example, is as revolutionary as it is rudimentary. His vision of the NFL's future is every bit as intriguing as his colorful description of his time in the league. "Red represented quality, judgment and a little special flair!" – Former NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue "First dooowwwnnn is a first-rate read by a first-class man." –Former Texas A&M and Dallas Cowboys linebacker Dat Nguyen

This book was released on 2020-06-30 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Any theory of physical reality is like a map; not just a map, yet a map of our human perception capability, successfully navigating the idea of space through time, understanding how all of that works. It is like travelling around the world; taking photos, gaining a greater understanding of how the world works, how the world lives, and how it breathes. To achieve that as a pure theory of physics in exploring space and time, from the basis of human perception, the travelling experience there is identifying a set of successful patterns of data that have been proven experimentally through real means, as patterns of data that come together to form a fundamental property of definition for perception as a logos of reality, here as a logos of space and time. The eBook presented here accounts for such a process, detailing 18 consecutive physics papers on the subject of time and perception, and how perception holds the key in unlocking the mystery of time and space. One key logos regarding our perception with space and time is that to understand nature is to first trust it, to trust what is presented to our perception as real, and thus more fundamentally, to know our perception, to accept those fundamentals. Yet how is “trust” a part of science, and should it be? In some ways nature like our body is like a piano; we can play anything with it, yet knowing how it works is key to getting the most out of it. And surely to get the most out of reality using our perception, our greater ability to perceive and think is certainly required for our advancement in the physical arts and sciences. This eBook is about knowing how nature works by accepting how our perception works and how perception can be used to understand the scientific here and now components of time and space. The eBook presented here is such a focus, and the hope is that it is an insightful and rewarding process of study. The utility of this eBook is to position the already freely available papers (available at http://www.equusspace.com/index-2.htm) in the one word/phrase search facility for immediate word/phrase index search functionality. For instance, if one wants to find which paper Avogadro’s constant was derived, it can be found by typing in “Avogadro” in the eBook document search function. If one wants to find where the fine structure constant was derived, it can be found by typing “fine structure constant” in the e-book document search function. When those results come up, each of those results will point to which of the papers that subject word/phrase arises by where it exists in the eBook. Owing to the nature of needing to keep each chapter as true to publication as the papers, hyperlinks for references are not used in the eBook yet remain the function of the individual papers themselves. The eBook is compiled as chapters representative of the sequential order of the papers as per publishing date, from chapter 1 (paper 1) to chapter 18 (paper 18). Paper 18 represents a summary of all the papers to the level of defining the fundamental and principle features of time, space, and perception; it was logical to reach paper 18 as a follow-on from papers 1-17, as a summary of the findings, namely the complete and fundamental description of time, space, and perception and their common functionality. Chapter 18 therefore is a good starting point, owing to its overview nature, if one is uncertain about the how to approach the papers. Or, if at any time one finds themselves getting lost in the reading, head to chapter 18 to get that overall heads-up overview perspective of what is ultimately sought in the papers, namely the fundamental scientific principles of time, space, and perception.
