Book excerpt: In SAVED (Book #1 of the Shadow Vampires), Keira and Amanda, twins, move with their family to a new town, and start their senior year at a new high school. But though they are twins, the girls have different fates. Amanda, beautiful, popular, is sought out by everyone. Keira, who has always lived in Amanda's shadow, is smaller, awkward, different. Even her mother, who is so close to Amanda, doesn't know what to make of her other daughter. Keira turns to books, and to her journal, for solace, and to find out about other worlds. Amanda makes friends easily at the new school, and quickly finds a boyfriend, while Keira is left alone, an outsider. But very quickly, it is clear that something strange is going on in Everstock. The town and the school are very divided. The popular, rich kids act as if they own the school and have nothing to do with the other kids, who are poorer and live in a different part of town. Not only are the kids meaner here, but an unknown infection has gripped the town, with more and more people going to the hospital. Something here is terribly wrong. But things change suddenly, as there is a terrible accident involving the twins. Not only are Keira and Amanda's lives changed forever, but a new dimension of life begins to open to Keira. As Keira recovers, she begins to change in ways she can't expect, receiving new and mysterious powers that no one can possibly understand. At the same time, a gorgeous, mysterious new boy, Cooper, appears at the school, who grips her imagination, and who refuses to tell her what secret he is hiding. As Keira and Cooper grow closer to each other, it soon becomes apparent that destiny has brought them together and that they may each have to sacrifice it all if they want to stay together

Book excerpt: 'The modern English theatre has had its poets and it has had its dramatists but in John Arden it has acquired its first dramatic poet since - well, let's be rash - the days of Shakespeare.' - Sunday Times. The Waters of Babylon: 'This wild, acidly funny and oddly tragic story of London low-life... reveals Arden's tough linguistic freedom and the free-wheeling ease with which he switches from prose to verse and back again' Sunday Times Live Like Pigs: 'Thrilling theatre... a rumbustious delight, outrageously funny, powerfully dramatic and, when you least expect it, genuinely moving... a modern classic' Daily Telegraph The Happy Haven (written with Margaretta D'Arcy): 'This rare and excellent revival perfectly reflects the play's bizarre atmosphere, its potent mixture of farcical prose, rhymed poetry, its marked avoidance of schematic moral codes' Time Out Serjeant Musgrave's Dance: 'A modern classic... a white-hot piece of work... Since its first appearance in 1959, the play has advanced towards us as if in a slow prophetic march' The Times Also included in the volume is When is a Door not a Door?, a one-act 'industrial episode'.

Summary Book Review When Britain Saved the West :

Download or read book in PDF When Britain Saved the West written by Robin Prior and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2015-01-01 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How Britain, standing alone, persevered in the face of near-certain defeat at the hands of Nazi Germany From the comfortable distance of seven decades, it is quite easy to view the victory of the Allies over Hitler's Germany as inevitable. But in 1940 Great Britain's defeat loomed perilously close, and no other nation stepped up to confront the Nazi threat. In this cogently argued book, Robin Prior delves into the documents of the time--war diaries, combat reports, Home Security's daily files, and much more--to uncover how Britain endured a year of menacing crises. The book reassesses key events of 1940--crises that were recognized as such at the time and others not fully appreciated. Prior examines Neville Chamberlain's government, Churchill's opponents, the collapse of France, the Battle of Britain, and the Blitz. He looks critically at the position of the United States before Pearl Harbor, and at Roosevelt's response to the crisis. Prior concludes that the nation was saved through a combination of political leadership, British Expeditionary Force determination and skill, Royal Air Force and Navy efforts to return soldiers to the homeland, and the determination of the people to fight on "in spite of all terror." As eloquent as it is controversial, this book exposes the full import of events in 1940, when Britain fought alone and Western civilization hung in the balance.

Paper P6, Advanced Taxation, requires you to extend the core tax knowledge that you learnt for Paper F6. As well as widening your knowledge of the core taxes, you will need to study inheritance tax, stamp taxes and trusts for the first time. In this paper you will also be expected to comment on ethical issues. In Paper P6 all of the questions set will be scenario type questions as opposed to the purely computational questions that you met at Paper F6. The emphasis of the questions will be on the interpretation of a given situation. You may need to propose alternative strategies and compare and contrast the results. Marks will be specifically awarded in the examination for the demonstration of effective communication skills. You will also need to demonstrate that you are aware that there may be non-tax matters that should be taken into account. The important point about this paper is that you need to develop your application skills. The best way to do this is to practise as many exam standard questions as possible. BPP Learning Media's P6 FA2008 Practice and Revision kit allows you to do just this. The Practice and Revision kit is new and has been specifically written for this paper. Most of our questions are exam standard, although some are preparation questions which ease you into the topic you are studying. Questions are grouped into topic areas so that you can easily identify those that cover particular areas. Our detailed solutions often provide top tips, advice on how to approach the question or advice on gaining easy marks. There is also a reference so that you know where the topics concerned are covered in the study text.BPP Learning Media is the publisher of choice for many ACCA students and tuition providers worldwide. Others cant see the trees for the forestthey miss the wondrous details all around them. So why not look instead at both the forest and the trees? This commentary on Pauls letter to the Colossians guides you in doing just that. Even though we will be exploring ancient biblical cultures and learning plenty about the Greek language, no prior academic training is needed. Technical terms have been set aside. Instead, with everyday language we will discover the big picture and revel in the fine details of this stunning letter, amazed by how God is still speaking these same words today to contemporary personal and social challenges.
