Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The author of Small Great Things returns with a powerful and provocative new novel about ordinary lives that intersect during a heart-stopping crisis. “Picoult at her fearless best . . . Timely, balanced and certain to inspire debate.”—The Washington Post The warm fall day starts like any other at the Center—a women’s reproductive health services clinic—its staff offering care to anyone who passes through its doors. Then, in late morning, a desperate and distraught gunman bursts in and opens fire, taking all inside hostage. After rushing to the scene, Hugh McElroy, a police hostage negotiator, sets up a perimeter and begins making a plan to communicate with the gunman. As his phone vibrates with incoming text messages he glances at it and, to his horror, finds out that his fifteen-year-old daughter, Wren, is inside the clinic. But Wren is not alone. She will share the next and tensest few hours of her young life with a cast of unforgettable characters: A nurse who calms her own panic in order to save the life of a wounded woman. A doctor who does his work not in spite of his faith but because of it, and who will find that faith tested as never before. A pro-life protester, disguised as a patient, who now stands in the crosshairs of the same rage she herself has felt. A young woman who has come to terminate her pregnancy. And the disturbed individual himself, vowing to be heard. Told in a daring and enthralling narrative structure that counts backward through the hours of the standoff, this is a story that traces its way back to what brought each of these very different individuals to the same place on this fateful day. One of the most fearless writers of our time, Jodi Picoult tackles a complicated issue in this gripping and nuanced novel. How do we balance the rights of pregnant women with the rights of the unborn they carry? What does it mean to be a good parent? A Spark of Light will inspire debate, conversation . . . and, hopefully, understanding. Praise for A Spark of Light “This is Jodi Picoult at her best: tackling an emotional hot-button issue and putting a human face on it.”—People “Told backward and hour by hour, Jodi Picoult’s compelling narrative deftly explores controversial social issues.”—Us Weekly

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The title of this volume, Sacred Marriages, consciously plays with the traditional concept of sacred marriage, but the plural form, “sacred marriages,” gives the reader an idea that something more is at stake here than a monomaniacal idea of manifestations deriving from a single prototype. Following the guidelines of one of the contributors, Ruben Zimmermann, the editors tentatively define “sacred marriage” as a “real or symbolic union of two complementary entities, imagined as gendered, in a religious context.” “Sacred marriages” (plural), then, refers to various expressions of this kind of union in different cultures that seek to overcome, to cite Zimmermann again, “the great dualism of human and cosmic existence.” The subtitle indicates that the contributors are primarily interested in different aspects of the divine-human sexual metaphor—that is, the imagining and reenactment of a gendered relationship between the human and divine worlds. This metaphor, which is essentially about relationship rather than sexual acts, can find textual, ritual, mythical, and social expressions in different times and places. Indeed, the sacred marriage ritual itself should be considered not a manifestation of the “sacralized power of sexuality experienced in sexual intercourse” but one way of objectifying the divine-human sexual metaphor.

Many in the village speculate that this elusive enigma is an angel, or perhaps a demon! For man fears what he does not understand, and no mortal could possibly live unharmed in the forest with all of the wild beasts and dangers of the far-reaching unknown. For one perceptive young boy, the connection to the Mysterious One becomes more than a fascination when his dreams are haunted by the celestial figure. A magnetic force beyond his control seems to draw him to the forest, into the realm of the mysterious being and an unspoken realization. This is the beginning of a magical journey of self-discovery, deep into the heart of the forest where a young boy follows his inner knowledge and finds the Mysterious One. A wanderer who has made the forest his home, who can read and understand the delicate balance of the natural world, our connection to the universe, and the divine.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Psychiatry remains an emerging discipline. Many people suffer from ailments that have no apparent cause, no obvious cure. Quite by accident, while using hypnotherapy, Dr. Modi discovered that pastlife regression can be a beneficial treatment. Many of these patients, under hypnosis, claimed to have spirits attached to their bodies and energy fields, creating psychological and physical problems. Based on years of experience, Dr. Modi describes techniques that release these spirits, revealing how patients can sometimes recover within a few sessions. While most doctors would agree that emotional states affect our health, few would give credence to spiritual "influences." In this truly groundbreaking book, Dr. Modi presents evidence that something beyond the physical affects the health of many people, and urges medical scientists to objectively assess this revolutionary approach to mental and, often, physical illness. Pioneers have the courage to put aside the status quo and evaluate what the evidence shows, even if it defies the prevailing logic of the time. Both physicians and the general public should explore the pioneering work of Dr. Modiwork which no doubt has produced many remarkable healings.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth ... Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness; for even as He loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable. -Khalil Gibran Humanity continues to evolve. Today’s children have unique qualities that are helping the planet evolve spiritually by moving from the “old” energy of fear (greed, corruption, competition, and stress) into the “new” energy of love (integrity, manifestation, and cooperation). The New Children possess specific characteristics to help them fulfill their purpose to bring the planet into a space where Peace and Honesty reign, where Harmony between all living creatures is the norm, and where Cooperation is given and expected as we realize that we are all connected to each other by Love. Differing from previous generations, these New Children are becoming more and more connected to Divine; they remember our spiritual connection. Even though each child expresses this gift in a unique way, as a group they are a more intuitive, more telepathic, more sensitive generation. Twin Shining Lights is a beautiful narrative that introduces readers to this perspective on life—because story matters.

Download or read book in PDF Reflections of the Christ Mind written by Paul Ferrini and published by Image. This book was released on 2000-07-25 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For Paul Ferrini, there was a time when the very thought of Jesus left him cold. Instead of embodying the truth of Jesus' teaching, Christianity seemed to harbor the fearful thoughts and actions of people who were more committed to self-interest than to unconditional love. So when Ferrini felt Jesus' voice inside him saying, "I want you to acknowledge me," he resisted. In time, however, he came to realize that it was not Jesus he was rejecting but the untruths that had become attached to Christian teaching. Responding to the inner voice did not mean merely acknowledging Jesus as some great teacher who lived in the past, but also meant that he was opening himself up to a living presence within his own awareness. Once Ferrini reached this reconciliation, powerful words of spiritual truth began to flow through him. Reflections of the Christ Mind presents the most important teachings the author has received through his spiritual awakening. Here at last is a gospel devoted solely to Jesus' teachings of love, healing, and forgiveness. The teacher readers meet in these pages is both compassionate and open-minded-he is the Jesus Christians know in their hearts. Repudiating religious hypocrisy, intolerance, and spiritual pride, Ferrini rejects the dogmatic position of the Church, offering instead words of hope and healing that form the new gospel for today.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I haven’t always been a Christian, but through a series of extraordinary events, I became one. The Lord has shown Himself to me in so many beautiful and special ways, I could not ignore the power of his acceptance, love, and grace. Through Him I have touched the lives of many, just as they have touched my life. I want people to know that when He gives you a story, you should share it with as many people as you can. Spread the word of His love and sacrifice to all you meet. You might get some strange looks, but I will tell you one thing: those you meet who enjoy your message and are open to the workings of the Lord will be your forever friends. I wrote this book to tell everyone how He has affected me throughout my life, even when I was too stubborn to give Him a second thought. He can change your life too; you just have to be open to Him. Take His hand! I did, and I have never been happier. I have faith and trust that I will, some glorious day, look upon his face.
